FOUNDATIONAL WING

PRE-NURSERY,BALVATIKA 1 , BALVATIKA 2, UPPER KINDERGARTEN (UKG), class I and class II

Steps done with heart, soul, mind & strength

At Saraswati Modern Sr. Secondary school,  the Foundational Experiences  are planned keeping in mind that the first five years in a child’s life is crucial since the rate of development in these years is more rapid than any other stage of development. In addition to the development of intelligence, personality, and social behavior, the children are assisted to gain confidence and assert themselves. The school works on their curiosity as it is at its maximum and children learn to explore, enquire and discover their surroundings. We understand the language of kids and base our subjects towards easy tutoring. The ‘Thematic teaching’ and ‘play-way’ methods are aimed at customized education towards each child’s capability. The white board integrated spacious classrooms enables various learning aids like Audio-Visual content, demonstrations, simulations, rhymes, etc. The eco-friendly atmosphere in and around the school, various theme based activities such as talk shows, conceptual rendering, frequent field trips, and celebrations ensure holistic development of children by comprehensively addressing their needs for care, health, nutrition, and well-being. The developmental programs work as a support to parents. Our caring facilitators work closely with parents and counsel them towards more meaningful bringing-up of their child even at home. Field trips to reinforce classroom experiences are planned regularly.

TEACHING PEDAGOGY

Steps done with heart, soul, mind & strength

Activities appeal to the child’s innate tendencies. At the pre-primary level, we provide theme-based activities that are learning related. Language is taught through phonetic sounds. Number work is taught through concrete examples and is led to conclude step by step in a logical way. Integrated Environmental Science & General Knowledge is taught through play involving investigation, exploration, and discovery.

To stimulate learning we have a special play area, which is a well-equipped room where students are led to discover the world around them based on the themes through fantasy or imaginative play. Multimedia and audiovisual aids further facilitate their learning and the fivefold development i.e. Physical development, Social development, Emotional development, Mental development and Spiritual development.

BRIGHT CLASSROOM & CARING FACILITATORS

The classrooms are bright and cheerful, catching the brightest rays of the sun. The school is surrounded with natural beauty with lush green environment in the backdrop. The teachers are loving and caring and implement a happy blend of Montessori and traditional teaching approaches.

SOCIAL SKILLS

We create a classroom environment wherein positive interactions are the norm. The teacher acknowledges and accepts diversity in terms of gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, academic and disciplinary needs. The classroom has well defined rules; these rules make the classroom more structured, knowable and consistent. Children are encouraged to follow rules of cleanliness, organization of materials, and common courtesies in public spaces and mutual respect for one another.

EVALUATION

Children are assessed through regular observations which is a child-friendly way of assessing and evaluating young minds. Here, students evolve and become better decision makers through stress-free continuous evaluations with the help of our skilled teachers. The purpose of assessment is judging the quality of learning of the child during the teaching learning process. It is a more an evaluation of the process than of a product.

Class III to V { PREPARATORY STAGE}

The prime focus of the curriculum is to innovate teaching-learning methodologies by developing paradigms that are conducive for students. The school provides a balanced educational program within a safe and stimulating environment so that each child embarks on a physical, intellectual, emotional and social journey of curiosity and reasoning. The aim of the school is to provide the essential skills that a child needs to cope with the changes in the world. While encouraging positive individual characteristics, it promotes a child’s responsibility, co-operation, creativity, respect for individuality and equality. It enhances learning by establishing and maintaining a high level of academic and behavioral expectations.

The Preparatory Wing of the School recognizes the link between development and learning. The Experiential inquiry-based curriculum focuses on the child as a learner. The CCE pattern of assessment introduced takes the students through a journey of activity / Experiential -based learning.

The following teaching pedagogies are effectively implemented by the educators to ensure effective teaching & learning among the learners.

ASSESSMENTS

From Class III onwards, we introduce a system of Class Assessment, slowly acclimatizing students to write examinations.

It focuses on the student’s demonstration of desired learning outcomes as central to the learning process. Therefore, the focus is on measuring learning through attainment of prescribed learning outcomes, rather than on measuring time.

The School advocated introduction of Experiential Learning as mandatory pedagogy to promote critical thinking, creativity and effective study skills among students. The School  has also displayed the Learning Outcomes approach developed by NCERT for all classes and encouraged the educators to direct their teaching-learning in the light of these outcomes.

We recognize that the larger objective of the Academic Programme is to open minds and steer a child towards critical thinking and application.

                  LEARNING OUTCOME

MIDDLE SCHOOL { CLASSES VI TO VIII }

This phase is characterized by the transition from childhood to adolescence, a time when children experience and witness dramatic physical, emotional and social changes in self and peer group. The Middle School Programme offers an expanded curriculum to match the growing abilities of children in assimilating information and grasping abstract ideas.

Middle School Programme focuses on strengthening the knowledge, skills and competencies of the child through comprehensive, innovative and creative learning activities.

The key areas that the Middle School curriculum addresses are:

  • Learners acquire and develop communication and listening skills through well designed activities like debates, group discussions, elocution, extempore, declamations, theme-based talks, drama, skits, role-play, etc. Field trips and educational excursions are an integral part of the curriculum, and extend learning beyond the classroom. These provide opportunities for cultural enrichment, personal and social development along with application of acquired skills.
  • Learners learn and apply their knowledge of Information and Communication Technology, building on what they learnt in the earlier grades.
  • The well-planned and structured teaching-learning strategies involving workshops, seminars, talks, presentations, video clippings and laboratory demonstrations reinforce the understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts.
  • The Programme is aligned to the educational objectives, and provides a sound base for students to pursue secondary education.
  • An emphasis on Health & Physical Education & Sports.
  • Guest lectures, Field trips and Nature walks add to Experiential Education.
  • Apart from academic proficiency, the curriculum places emphasis on sensitizing children to be caring and compassionate, and develop a sense of responsibility towards society through participation in community service activities.

CLASSROOMS

We believe that learning evolves through a two-way interaction between Educators and Learners. Hence, our classroom sessions focus on collaborative learning, rather than a one-sided approach. The teaching methodology, which we follow, is one of active engagement. We encourage our learners to take initiative and engage with their own learning process. This self-directed approach not only enables children to get involved and learn actively through their own successes and failures, but also heightens their ability to think for themselves.

ASSESSMENTS

At SARASWATI , we follow a system of continuous multi-disciplinary assessment, which could be formal or informal. We also follow a differentiated system of assessment to cater to the varied needs of learners.
